  • Three UK, Tata team to accelerate 5G network roll-out

    Among its other ambitions for the year, Three UK has designated 2021 as the year that it will ramp up business-oriented offers. To realise this aim, the operator has chosen Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to help configure its mobile network for its ongoing roll-out of 5G services.

    Having spent 2020 laying the groundwork for a 5G network that, to date, has focused on consumer-centric services, Three UK announced in December 2020 that it would pivot towards better addressing the business sector – an area that, according to Three CEO Robert Finnegan, offers a great opportunity for growth.

  • UK government urged to implement cloud-centric transformation plan

    The UK government has been urged to rethink its approach to delivery of digital public services, accelerate cloud and digital ID adoption, and take note of what digital government innovation leaders such as China and Russia are doing.

    A list of 60 recommendations across various areas from spending and procurement of technology to skills and use of data, as well as the creation of new tech-focused departments and overseeing bodies is set out in the Proposals for better digital government report, which has been launched and delivered to the Cabinet Office and Number 10 this week.

  • Tech partnership to drive Finland’s quantum computing project

    Finland’s VTT Technical Research Centre has formed a strategic collaboration with tech startup IQM Group to build the country’s first quantum computer.

    The VTT-IQM co-innovation partnership aims to deliver a 50-qubit machine by 2024, drawing on international quantum technology expertise to augment Finland’s home-grown quantum capabilities.

    The partnership combines VTT’s expertise in supercomputing and networking systems with IQM’s capacity to deliver a hardware stack for a quantum computer while working with VTT to integrate critical technologies.
